Hello Friends,
I’m thrilled to announce that in just two short weeks I’ll finally be back in the studio recording a collection of music I’ve been dying to share with so many of you for so long now (originally planned for 2020). With an amazing engineer at the helm and an astonishingly talented band at the ready, we’re planning to record basic tracks for some twenty songs or more – a double album worth of originals including four instrumentals – over the span of four days in early June. This “concept album” has been years in the making and is going to be a blast to record, produce, and release out into the world. And for those who enjoy the opportunity to get more intimately involved with a project like this during the production, be on the look out for some awesome pre-order opportunities from Whirled Werks Music with stellar, exclusive rewards. I’m looking forward to keeping you posted on our progress so stay tuned and thanks, as always, for your support!
Much Love,
Adam Brooks

5 Feb
On February 5, 2005 BUCKTOWN KICKBACK hosted a release concert for their debut LP “Speakeasy” at the Columbus Music Hall in Columbus, OH. The rest – as they say – is history. Upon release to good reviews and regional acclaim the band was propelled on a whirlwind tour from local clubs to national stages. Teaming up with Atlanta based Shut Eye Records, “Speakeasy” landed plays on independent radio stations across the United States and Europe helping break the band’s debut into the AMA Charts – Radio Play Top 100 for multiple weeks. This is a video slideshow produced by Whirled Werks Music to commemorate the anniversary of the release date for this excellent collection of original songs recorded by a stellar band on the rise. We hope you’ll enjoy this walk down memory lane featuring excerpts from all 15 tracks!
In loving memory – We love and miss him so much and are forever grateful for the times we shared and memories we made with our dear brother, Drum Dave.
Adam Brooks | The Ramblin’ Brooks | Road To Nowhere (demo) Oct.17.2014
15 DecWith the purpose in mind to record a demo for future reference, Adam Brooks performed this solo/acoustic rendition of his song “Road To Nowhere” while in Charlottesville, VA on October 17, 2014. The video, recently re-discovered in our archives, gives us a glimpse of an older version of a poignant song slated to appear on an upcoming 2021 release by The Ramblin’ Brooks, so we wanted to share it with you here. We hope you enjoy! -Whirled Werks Music
Western Woods releases Curl…and…Flip featuring Bucktown Kickback founders/producers
8 Dec
Jamie Goodman, Adam Brooks Dudding and David Blankestyn met while attending Bowling Green State University in NW Ohio in the mid-nineties, forming their musical friendship and likely, the beginnings of the Americana band Bucktown Kickback. Now hear them perform together – along with heavy-hitters Jonathan Donaldson and Scott Hunt – on the Jamie Goodman fronted project Western Woods and the new release Curl…and..Flip, a remarkably poinant and inspired walk down memory lane for the folks here at Whirled Werks Music.
“Proud to finally release this album. Despite having sat on it for a number of years, it’s now back from mastering and ready to share. This record is dedicated in loving memory of Dave. You are sorely missed and never forgotten.” – Jamie Goodman (Western Woods)
Bucktown Kickback mourn the loss of founding member / drummer-percussionist David Blankestyn – Life Celebration Oct.4th
29 SepObituary: On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, David Scott Blankestyn, the world’s most joyous spirit, a kindred soul to everyone, and a stranger to no one, passed away at the age of 42. David was a loving husband and proud father to two amazing children. David was born on June 4, 1978 in Columbus, Ohio to Gerald and Mary (Veltman) Blankestyn. David grew up in Westerville and Galena, graduating from Big Walnut High School and Bowling Green University. Other than his time in college and some time in Salt Lake City working with the 2002 Olympics, he lived his entire life in the Columbus area. David married Anne Baumann on October 3, 2009 and they have been lovingly raising a son, Max, and daughter, Cora.
David was always a talented musician and artist. He was the drummer/percussionist for Bucktown Kickback, a bluegrass/Americana band that originated in Columbus, recording several albums and touring throughout the Midwest and Southeast. He studied West African drumming, dabbled on the guitar and ukulele, and recently taught himself to play the piano (to keep up with his daughter!). Music held a special spot in Dave’s heart. David was known as the upcoming concert event announcer on WCBE for many years in the 2000’s. Most recently, he worked for WOSU as well as working with a good friend doing carpentry and home repair.
David most enjoyed being a father to Max and Cora, spending as much time with them as he could. David practiced Tae Kwon Do with his son, earning his red belt, participating on the CK Lee Demo Team, developing strong friendships with other students, and gaining a mentor in Master Lee.
David is survived by his wife Anne, his children Max and Cora, his parents Gerald and Mary, his brother Michael, grandfather Cornelius, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and countless friends.
